Through the practice of LIGHT-PAPER, I came to feel—firsthand—that working with paper is not only about paper itself. If we understand it on the level of “a material that is thin, and easy to bend, cut, and work,” that logic extends to many other materials as well. As the leading basket artist Hisako Sekijima suggests with the term “Basket Connection” in her book バスケタリーの定数, we can find commonalities through methods and structures—and begin to sense connections even between things that initially appear unrelated.

CASE-METAL is a light produced by translating the practice developed through paper into sheet-metal fabrication. The structure remains the same, yet the material’s own force gives it an entirely different presence.
